Turn the Pages of Jimbocho: Tokyo’s Book Town

Had a fantastic time exploring Jimbocho with Bibi today. She took me to many interesting spots that I would not have even known about if I went on my own. Loved browsing all the vintage books, movie posters, stationary, and seeing all the charming details - which is even more fun when you have a friendly local like Bibi to chat to along the way! I joined the Tokyo Westside Hidden Gems Tour and explored Kichijoji and Gotokuji. Even though the Gotokuji cat temple and the Ghibli shop were close d, I still had a great time. The tour guide was very kind, fun, and easy to be with — they even treated us to coffee, and we had time to relax and rest. Strolling around the streets and Inokashira Park gave me a nice feel of local Tokyo life. Overall, it was such a light, memorable, and enjoyable experience. 🌿☕

Yanesen, Kagurazaka, and Jimbocho are three fascinating districts in Tokyo, brought to life by our guide, Yusuke Hirayama. In Yanesen, I was captivated not only by the beautiful Nezu Shrine with its stunning architecture and picturesque torii gates, but also by the charming alleyways, where you’ll find numerous cat-themed images. These adorable cats really add a unique sense of warmth and tranquility to the area. The district also preserves old buildings, offering a glimpse into the past of Tokyo. In Kagurazaka, Yusuke shared fascinating stories about geishas and Japanese-style high-end restaurants tucked away in narrow streets, creating an atmosphere of timeless elegance. And in Jimbocho, his tales about books and cozy cafés made exploring the area even more enjoyable. Yusuke is not just a guide, but a true cultural ambassador, helping you experience Tokyo in its most authentic and memorable form.
