Few cities tell the story of modern Japan quite like Yokohama. When the country opened to international trade in the 19th century, this port became one of the main points of contact between Japan and the outside world. The result is a city with a character all its own, where historic waterfronts, international influences, and Japanese traditions exist side by side.
This tour explores the places and stories that shaped Yokohama, from its role as a gateway for foreign trade to the neighborhoods that grew around it. Along the way, you'll encounter scenic harbor views, traces of the city's multicultural past, and the local atmosphere that makes Yokohama feel different from Tokyo. Few cities reveal Japan's encounter with the wider world as clearly as this one.

Yokohama is a worthwhile add to an itinerary. It is a quiet but still popular getaway from busier cities. Booking a tour allowed me to learn about its history as the first port of Japan and explore its iconic Chinatown.

Yokohama is a lovely seaside city which is definitely worth seeing. Joining a tour was a good choice to hear about the history of the city and other buildings, and explore parts like the port and Chinatown.

Outstanding, saw many sights that all contributed to a central theme of Yokohama being a hub of foreign influence while maintaining a uniquely Japanese identity.

Overview
