Overview

Tour did not seem very organized. Walked up and down the same street many times. Most of the places were closed. I booked this tour weeks prior, even messaging tour leader before the tour would have preferred tour leader to recommend changing tour timing due to early morning lot of shops being closed. We started at a cafe and spent one hour there, tour leader didn’t seem in a rush to start the tour. Tour leader didn’t cover their own food cost at cafe.

We started our tour in Kagurazaka, a charming neighborhood known for its unique blend of French and Japanese culture. As we walked through the narrow streets, our tour leader pointed out several European-style restaurants that beautifully incorporated Japanese elements in their design and menus. We also visited the old geisha district, where we learned about the traditional ryotei (Japanese-style restaurants) that still preserve the refined atmosphere of the past. After that, we stopped by the Akagi Shrine, was especially associated with women, and many came to pray for things like love, beauty, marriage, and safe childbirth. Because of this, it was sometimes called a “women’s guardian shrine.” where we offered prayers and made wishes for good luck, followed by a visit to the , a peaceful Buddhist temple with a rich history. To end the tour, we went to cozy café, enjoying delicious French pastries while chatting about Japanese culture and the day’s experiences. Kagurazaka is a quiet corner of Tokyo, just minutes from Shinjuku, but it feels a world away. Walking through its narrow, cobblestone alleys, you can still sense its old geisha history and traditional restaurants tucked behind wooden gates. At the same time, small cafés, bakeries, and shops mix in, giving the area a cozy and nice vibe.
