Ueno Walking Tour: Culture, Nature and Local Life
Experience the perfect contrast between serene life and the high energy of Tokyo's local markets.Key Facts
Overview
Ueno is one of those rare Tokyo neighborhoods where you can stand in a centuries-old shrine and hear a street market around the corner. From the sweeping greenery of Ueno Park to the packed stalls of Ameyoko Shopping Street, the area holds more layers than most visitors have time to find on their own.
With your Local Expert, explore both the iconic and the overlooked: historic temples, hidden gardens, and the everyday street life that makes Ueno one of Tokyo's most distinctive neighborhoods. Your Local Expert shares the history, the context, and the shortcuts, so you leave with a real understanding of what makes this part of the city tick.

Included / Not Included
Ueno is walkable, but without a local you get a nice park and a busy market. With one, you get the history behind the shrines, the right stalls in Ameyoko, and the hidden corners most people walk straight past.
Most repeat visitors stop at the park and Ameyoko. This tour goes into the parts just outside that circuit, hidden gardens and everyday Ueno that doesn't make it onto most itineraries.
Please wear breathable clothing and comfortable footwear for walking.
