Overview

You sit at a low workbench surrounded by stacks of folded fabric, spools of cord, and the beautiful finished pairs all lined up along the wall. The studio smells faintly of fresh cotton and old wood. This shoe making technique has been in practice for generations and now you get to step up to the table.
Most workshops in Tokyo hand you a souvenir and call it a craft experience. This one gives you a pair of sandals you made yourself!

What you will do

Meet Your Local ExpertBefore your experience, your Local Expert will be available via the TOMOGO! app chat to share information, answer questions, and help you understand how the experience will run.
Introduction to the craftThe studio walks you through the history of zori, what makes a good pair, and the technique you will use. Everything is explained in English with your Local Expert filling in anything that needs more context.
Hands-on weavingYou spend most of the three hours actually making your zori, working at your own pace with the studio guiding the technique and your Local Expert there for anything you want to ask along the way.
