Traditional Towel Dyeing Experience in Tokyo
Create your own hand-dyed tenugui (towel) at the only dyehouse in Tokyo, where techniques have been used since 1952.Overview
You will experience traditional Hiki-Zome hand-brush dyeing at Tokyo’s only dyehouse in Takadanobaba, which has been operating for over 70 years. The same technique is used to create the silk kimono displayed in the studio. You will choose a design and apply dye to a tenugui (cotton towel), guided by a master craftsman. Your finished piece is dried and can be taken home the same day.
After the workshop, your Local Expert will take you to their favorite spot in Takadanobaba and share their local insights about the area.
