Overview

Few places in Tokyo change as quickly as this one. A short walk can take you from crowded shopping streets filled with music, fashion, and street culture to quiet forest paths surrounding a shrine visited by millions each year. That contrast is what makes this part of the city so interesting. The tour follows both sides of the neighborhood, from its modern identity as a center of youth culture to one of Tokyo's most important religious sites.

Rather than treating these places as separate attractions, the route connects them through the streets and spaces in between. Along the way, your Local Expert shares the stories, history, and local context that help explain how such different worlds ended up side by side. The contrast between them is what people remember.

She was awesome, very friendly and knowledgable, we got to see places we haven’t seen yet, and she taught us how to use chopsticks! She brought order to a chaotic itinerary. We really appreciate it and thanks a lot!

Tomogo’s Harajuku tour is super fun and I recommend this to everyone. There are soo many speciality stores that are very unique and in addition to the cuteness (kawaii) culture there is a great (Meiji Jingu) shrine with a great park nearby and there are many interesting desert and coffee shops in the main Takeshita street.

Harajuku felt like my kind of area. A bit colorful and full of fun little corners. Enjoyed seeing it from a local perspective. I even went back again after the tour to revisit different stops.

The tour was amazing. We did a tour of the shrine and learned about the different meanings of what takes place when you go to pray and after. It was so insightful. We also got to check out the shops on Takeshita Street and try some snacks.
