The tour is a fully private, guided walking experience through a mix of Asakusa’s most interesting and lesser-known areas. The itinerary is completely customizable, but can, for example, include stops at the Sumida River, Asakusa Chika-gai (the underground shopping street), Sensoji Temple, Asakusa Sanja Shrine and more. During the tour, your local expert will share local stories and history at each stop. They will also provide personalized recommendations for the rest of your time in Tokyo. Entrance fees, food, drinks and transport are not included unless otherwise stated at booking.

Yes you can! This is one of the main benefits of a private tour. Whether you're interested in the area's food, retro and feudal history, local photography spots, or Asakusa’s more concealed corners, let your tour leader know and they'll adjust accordingly. If you have specific questions or places in mind, make sure to share them when you book.
Asakusa transforms completely depending on the hour you arrive. During the daytime crowds gather at Senso-ji, jinrikisha weave through the streets, and there is plenty to keep you busy: browsing the Nakamise shops, collecting goshuin stamps, drawing omikuji fortunes, and stepping inside the main hall. Evening is a different world entirely. After 8pm the crowds thin out, the shops close and the main hall closes its doors. But the lanterns stay lit, and the temple grounds take on a serene atmosphere that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of the daytime.
Food and drinks are not included in this tour. We recommend bringing cash if you'd like to stop at a local café, bar, snack store or restaurant during the tour, where you can order and pay for any food or beverages you choose.

Your tour leader will work around wherever you need to be next, whether that's back at the starting point, a particular station, or simply pointed in the right direction for your next plan. Just let them know during booking and they'll make it work.
It can include these areas. The tour focuses on the central Asakusa area, where there is plenty to keep you engaged throughout. That said, both Kappabashi and Skytree are nearby and can be added in as optional extensions. As every tour is fully customisable, just let us know your interests when booking and we can build the experience around you.
You'll cover about 3–5 kilometres over the course of the tour. The streets are flat and generally wide, though during busy periods the crowds can make them feel narrower and you may find yourself weaving in and around people. Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.
Most of the tour takes place on flat streets, though some of the older lanes in the area can be uneven in spots. Senso-ji's main hall has an elevator, making it accessible for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. The elevator is designated as wheelchair priority; guests with prams are welcome on the tour but are advised to leave the pushchair behind if possible. If you choose to include Matsuchiyama Shoden in the north, be aware that it sits on a hill. A monorail is available and will take you to the top, however there is no elevator into Matsuchiyama Shoden's main hall itself, so a short climb up 8 steps is required to enter the building. If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us before booking and we'll do our best to adapt the experience where possible.
Yes, as a private tour it can be adapted for families. That said, the tour has a strong focus on history and covers a lot of ground over three hours, so it is worth considering whether younger children will stay engaged throughout. Having a few distractions on hand for quieter moments is never a bad idea. There are plenty of moments children tend to enjoy: trying their luck with omikuji fortune telling, hunting for the hidden statues dotted around the area, and goldfish catching at the traditional kingyo sukui stalls. Let us know when booking if you are traveling with younger children and we will do our best to keep the experience fun for the whole group.
Wear everyday, casual clothing suitable for walking in. Comfortable shoes are essential. If you're visiting in summer, Tokyo can be very hot and humid, so be sure to dress lightly and consider a sun hat. In the rainy season (roughly June to mid-July), a compact umbrella or lightweight rain jacket is worth bringing. Layers are useful in spring and autumn when temperatures can drop in the evening.
Yes. As Japan remains a largely cash-based society, many of the smaller venues in Asakusa do not accept cards. We recommend carrying at least ¥3,000–¥5,000 for optional food, drinks, or souvenirs during the tour. It’s also possible to stop by an ATM to get cash while on tour. For international cards, ATMs at 7-Eleven and Japan Post are the most reliable.
The tour runs in light rain as Asakusa has plenty of covered alleys and indoor options, and your tour leader will adapt the route accordingly. We recommend bringing an umbrella just in case. In the event of severe weather (such as a typhoon warning), we will contact you as early as possible to discuss rescheduling or a refund.

TOMOGO! tours come with free cancellation and rescheduling up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Cancellations or changes requested within 24 hours of the start time are non-refundable and will not be accepted. All deadlines are based on the local time of the experience.
