Kagurazaka: Tokyo’s “Little Paris”
Discover the romantic side of Tokyo where French flair meets historic geisha culture with a local expert.Overview
Kagurazaka is the one place in Tokyo where you turn off a busy street and find yourself in front of a French patisserie, then turn again and walk into an alley that was built for geisha. The cobblestones are the only ones left in the city and you feel the difference the moment you step onto them. On the right evening you will hear shamisen coming from behind a closed door, one of the few geisha still working in this neighborhood, and your local expert knows exactly which street to stand on.
Somewhere in these alleys there is a stone hidden in the pavement that locals say brings luck in love. Most people who walk through here every day have never found it. We know where it is, and we will tell you what this lane was actually used for when we get there.
