If you want to meet a real Tokyo local, I'm your guy. My name is Shota. I was born and raised here in Tokyo. Every morning, I make my own matcha and drink it. I wear kimono when I guide and when I practice tea ceremony. Most days, I sit in an old café with a coffee and a book — Japanese history, philosophy, culture, anthropology. And I still hang out with my high school friends at local izakaya, over a drink or two. This is just my life in Tokyo. For over 10 years, I worked in accounting and finance at an American consulting firm and at a Japanese beauty company. I'm a US CPA, and I still do freelance work. But one day I realized something. I was always at the office. I was working, but not living. So I quit. For the past 3 years, I've been showing visitors from all over the world what life here is really like. I love learning, sharing ideas, and talking with people. This is my ideal job — and I think it will be my life's work. I'll take you to the places I actually go. We'll talk about history, food, philosophy, daily life — whatever you're curious about. I'll tell you how one Japanese person sees things. And I want to hear your side too. Ask me anything.
