Private Sake Tasting in Tokyo: Inside a Members-Only Speakeasy
No sign, no address, no phone number. For one night, this is your door into a Tokyo sake speakeasy.Key Facts
Overview
Most people would walk straight past this bar without knowing it was there.
There is no sign outside, and the venue keeps its name, address and contact details private. Normally, entry works through a membership system. For this private sake tasting in Tokyo, a TOMOGO! Local Expert takes you inside.
Over three hours, you'll taste a selection of sake served omakase-style, with your Local Expert there to explain what you're drinking, where it comes from and what to notice as you go. Low lighting, a tin counter and carefully chosen vessels make the setting as unusual as the tasting itself.
You don't need to know anything about sake before you arrive. Ask questions, compare pours and work out what you actually like. By the end, you'll have a better idea of what to look for the next time you order sake in Japan.

What You Could Do
Every TOMOGO! experience is led by a Local Expert, so the exact shape of the evening may vary depending on the night, group interests and what the venue is pouring. Think of this as a glimpse of what your Tokyo evening could include.

You'll meet your Local Expert nearby and walk together to the venue. Once inside, you'll spend around three hours tasting sake selected omakase-style, with your Local Expert explaining each pour and helping you understand what you're tasting. The experience is completely private for your group.
Yes. It's just you and your travel companions with your Local Expert. You won't be joined by another tour group, and numbers are capped at 6 guests.
The bar does not publish its location, and naming a meeting point here would narrow it down, so your local expert will message you through the TOMOGO! app before your booking with where to meet. From there they will walk you the rest of the way.
The experience lasts around 3 hours. Because it's private, the pace within that time can vary depending on your group and how the evening unfolds.
Not at all. Everything is explained as you taste, from how the sake was made and where it comes from to what you might notice in the glass. You don't need any prior knowledge, just curiosity.
We recommend carrying at least ¥3,000-¥5,000 in case you want to order anything extra during or after the experience.
Because the venue asks us not to. It does not publish an address or a phone number, avoids press and review sites, and treats that privacy as part of what it offers its members. We can tell you what happens inside and what the room is like. We cannot tell you where it is, and you find out on the night.
Yes. The venue normally operates through a private membership system, with new members introduced by existing ones. This experience gives you a way to visit with your Local Expert, without needing to become a member yourself.
No. The room does not take walk-ins and there is no public listing to book from. Even where access is possible by other routes, what you are paying for here is the guided part: someone who can tell you what is in the cup, why it is in that cup, and what changed between the first pour and the second.
The pours are chosen omakase style, so the count moves with the evening and with what the venue is serving that night. Your Local Expert will tell you what to expect when you arrive.
Light bites may be served alongside the sake, but they vary from night to night and aren't guaranteed. We recommend eating beforehand rather than treating this as dinner. Please tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you book.
Yes. The legal drinking age in Japan is 20, so all guests must be 20 or over. Please bring photo ID.
Smart casual works well. You'll be seated for most of the experience, so wear something you feel comfortable spending the evening in. We also recommend avoiding strong perfume or fragrance, as aroma is an important part of tasting sake.
Please raise at the time of booking and we will check for your date. The approach is a short walk from the station through backstreets, and the venue has both counter seating and a tatami room, which involves sitting at floor level. We would rather confirm the specifics with the venue than give you a vague yes.
Language availability depends on the Local Experts available for your date. Tell us your preferred language when you book and we'll confirm what's available.
